Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about electrolysis at eleQTro spot

  • We are unfortunately not accepting new clients at this time. Our books are full and we do not have anymore appointment slots available. We do have a waitlist, however, our waitlist is reserved for folks who have received referrals from their primary care providers or health plans to see us. For more guidance on how to navigate insurance coverage for gender-affirming electrolysis, read our entire FAQs. If you still have more questions, you can contact the Client Care Specialist for guidance hello@eleqtrospot.com or text/call 916-241-3676

  • Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal, making it a reliable choice for all hair types and skin tones. A fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, delivering a quick electrical current to destroy the follicle. This process prevents regrowth, leaving you with smooth, hair-free skin.

  • If your insurance is regulated by the State of California (most plans are), it should cover gender-affirming services, including electrolysis. Follow these steps:

    1. Talk to your primary care provider (PCP) and request a referral (specify eleQTro spot).

      1. If your referral is denied or delayed, contact Legal Services of Northern California at 888-354-4474 for free legal assistance.

    2. Once your referral is authorized, your insurance will refer you to the electrolysis provider.

    3. If referred to eleQTro spot, we’ll handle the rest!

  • We currently treat facial and body areas, including the chin, upper lip, arms, legs, chest, and back. We also offer electrolysis for bottom surgery prep.

A note about bottom surgery prep:

The first step to getting electrolysis for bottom surgery prep is to be referred to a surgeon. After your consult with the surgeon, your provider will then refer you to electrolysis to begin bottom surgery prep. Insurance will not cover electrolysis for bottom surgery prep until after a consult with a surgeon occurs.

  • At eleQTro spot, we primarily use single probe galvanic modality. Galvanic is the “true” form of electrolysis (using an electrical current to destroy the hair follicle). We sometimes incorporate a blend modality into our treatment, bringing in a small amount of thermolysis (only when it is necessary). Thermolysis uses heat to destroy the hair follicle. At eleQTro spot, we do not ever use solely thermolysis (heat) modality because of its potential to scar or damage the skin. We are careful and precise to only deliver the smallest amount of heat, if ever, when treating our clients.

We are also extremely careful of over treatment. Over treatment can cause scarring, hypopigmentation, or hyperpigmentation.

In your initial consultation (and throughout treatment), our electrologist is communicative and informative about the modality being used and its purpose.
